How can porcelain veneers help my smile?
Our veneers are essentially thin porcelain shells that are about as thick as a contact lens, which are expertly created to suit your individual teeth. Once applied, porcelain veneers can effectively conceal a wide range of dental flaws so you can benefit from an enhanced smile and heightened confidence. Porcelain is one of the most durable and cosmetically pleasing dental materials available, and can even be colour-matched to the exact shade of your tooth enamel for a seamless and natural looking restoration.
What should I expect during the process?
At Gentle and Caring Dentistry our sole focus is to ensure you are comfortable throughout all stages of your treatment. Your veneer treatment will generally be conducted over two appointments in which we will assess your smile in great detail, discuss your smile desires, how you want the overall result to be and then tailor a personalised treatment plan to reflect this.
Once you and Dr Irani are happy with your treatment plan we will then take an impression of your smile and send this to our dental laboratory where your veneers will be created. In the meantime, we will fit you with temporary veneers until your permanent veneers are ready.
In your final appointment, Dr Irani will place your permanent veneers over your prepared teeth, and will not bond them into place until you are completely happy with the way they look. Once you are happy with the placement, our dentists will gently adhere the veneers to your teeth to complete the treatment.
How can I prolong the life of my veneers?
To maintain the healthy look of your veneers it is important to:
- Brush and floss them just as you would your normal teeth
- Avoid biting into excessively hard foods such as ice
- While your porcelain veneers are stain resistant, they can still become discoloured. To avoid this for as long as possible try to abstain from smoking, drinking red wine or coffee and keeping foods like caramel to a minimum.
With good care and maintenance porcelain veneers can generally last up to 10-15 years!
